State recognizes SBLSD schools for outstanding achievement

Washington School Recognition Program badge

We are excited to announce that the state has recognized five schools in the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District for closing opportunity gaps and for students’ growth and academic achievement as part of the Washington School Recognition Program for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 school years. These recognitions are a reflection of the hard work by our staff to know, value and support every student.

Congratulations to the staff, students and families of the following recognized SBLSD schools:

  • Sumner High School: Recognized for closing gaps for English Learner Progress in the 2021-2022 school year
  • Donald Eismann Elementary School: Recognized for growth for one or more student groups in the 2022-23 school year
  • Lakeridge Middle School: Recognized for closing gaps for one or more student groups and growth for one or more student groups in the 2022-23 school year
  • Liberty Ridge Elementary School: Recognized for closing gaps for one or more student groups and growth for one or more student groups in the 2022-23 school year
  • Tehaleh Heights Elementary School: Recognized for growth for one or more student groups and achievement for the whole school in the 2022-23 school year

Schools are honored in at least one or more areas:

  • Closing Gaps: These schools make significant advancements for all students or specific student groups in the area identified for improvement.
  • Growth: These schools have at least one student group among the highest performers on at least 60% of Washington School Improvement Framework measures.
  • Achievement: These schools show high performance on at least two of the following measures: attendance, dual credit completion, English language arts (ELA) assessments, graduation rates, math assessments, and ninth grade on-track.

The Washington School Recognition Program recognizes schools based on the Washington School Improvement Framework, which considers multiple measures, including growth, achievement, and student success indicators like attendance and completion of dual credit coursework. The State Board of Education (SBE), the Educational Opportunity Gap Oversight and Accountability Committee (EOGOAC), and the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) work together to identify the schools for recognition. The program was on pause during the 2019–20 and 2020–21 school years as schools navigated the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
